Hope Spring Fun Run 2018

Hope Spring Fun Run 2018

It’s always a bonus to do good and have fun at the same time. The Hope Spring family 5k Fun Run provides just that. You can run, jog or walk with your whole family on Sunday 14 October. Our beautiful 5k course winds around Queenswood’s autumn colours. So enjoy yourself while raising awareness and funds for Hope Spring’s water projects.

Hope Spring identifies communities across West Africa that are in extreme poverty with difficult access to clean water. Often women and children in such communities walk for several hours each day to fetch water. This ruins their opportunities to earn an income or gain an education.
Therefore Hope Spring gives 100% of donations to projects such as wells, boreholes and rainwater harvesting. Projects typically include a local school, a community group or community elders, giving sanitation and hygiene workshops to make the most of the new infrastructure.

Temi Odurinde, a Hope Spring trustee reports “the funds raised from activities such as the 5k Fun Run help to reduce the mortality rate for children under 5, which in Nigeria currently stands at 59,000 children a year.” Alhaji, the head of the Kongbari community which received infrastructure in 2016 wrote “we had been suffering for a long time, particularly our women and children, and now we are happy and glad every compound can easily fetch water whenever they need it.”

So put it in your diary – a chance to enjoy yourself and improve the lives of people without access to safe water. For more details and to register, please visit Hope Spring’s website or facebook. The Fun Run is part of a day of events at Queenswood Country Park, part of h.Energy sustainability festival.
